France is a sovereign state comprising territory in western Europe and several overseas regions and territories. It is a unitary semi-presidential republic with the capital in Paris, the country's largest city and main cultural and commercial centre.
History[]
During the War of 1996, the French capital of Paris was among the first cities that were destroyed during the invasion, as the City Destroyer targeted the iconic Eiffel Tower. The cities of Lyon and Marseille were later destroyed afterwards.
Following the war, France soon recovered from the invasion and joined the Earth Space Defense. France later became the first nation to colonize Mars.
A decade later, France survived the return of the aliens and a rebuilt Paris was left barely unscathed by the Harvester Mothership.[1]

- In the original script for Independence Day: Resurgence, Paris was depicted to be devastated in the film instead of London. But this was ultimately cut due to the November 2015 Paris attacks. According to Roland Emmerich, "After the attacks, we felt it wasn’t right to have the Burj Khalifa crashing on the Eiffel Tower, so we dumped it on the London Eye instead. The English can take it."[2]
