Dr. Hartmut Engel was a ufologist and author of the acclaimed book Hot Rods of the Gods.
History
Engel believed that aliens came to Earth in the distant past and were responsible for influencing human civilization. On the first day of the arrival of the aliens in July 1996, Engel appeared on the news and expressed his beliefs that the aliens came for peaceful intentions, believing that the aliens want to teach and help humankind. He later appeared on Hal McGintess' show and debated against Libby Fields, who strongly insisted that the aliens have malevolent intentions for Earth.

- Hartmut Engel is a parody of Erich von Däniken, who was one of the main figures responsible for popularizing the "paleo-contact" and ancient astronauts hypotheses. Engel's book Hot Rods of the Gods is a satire of von Däniken's Chariots of the Gods?. Von Däniken's works were also the main influence of Roland Emmerich's film Stargate.
