During the War of 1996, the cities of New Delhi, Bombay, and Calcutta were destroyed during the first day of the invasion. Thereafter, the aliens destroyed Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Madras. After the invasion, India recovered from the devastation through the use of reverse-engineered alien technology.

- Mumbai was originally planned to be depicted to be devastated in Independence Day: Resurgence, but was excised from the film to pre-emptively please Indian censors and avoid potential protests and legal action from Indian religious groups and activists for portraying any Indian monuments as being damaged.[1]
