Independence Day Wiki

Commander Piotr Belyaev was an Russian military officer who oversaw Rhea Base.

Biography[]

Belyaev was a veteran of the War of 1996, having served in the Russian Air Force in which he claimed four confirmed alien kills and two other probables. He had flown interplanetary missions in which he had landed on the Moon, Mars, and Rhea.

On July 1, 2016, Belyaev and his men on Rhea witnessed an gravitational anomaly occurring between Rhea and Saturn's ring. Belyaev then ordered to contact the Earth Space Defense to be informed of this unusual event, but only to learn that long-range communications between Rhea and Earth were shut down, caused by interference coming from the anomaly.

Knowing that he and his team were in danger, Belyaev evacuated the base by boarding on the base's only space tug. Belyaev desperately piloted the tug away from the anomaly just as its vortex sucked the entirety of Rhea Base and the moon. Unfortunately, Belyaev and his men were unable to escape, as the anomaly disintegrated their ship.
