The Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314 (VMFA-314) is a United States Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet squadron that is better known as the Black Knights. They were stationed at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Irvine, California.

History

During the War of 1996, the Black Knights participated in an counterattack against a City Destroyer over the ruins of Los Angeles. Their objective was to test their weapons on different parts of the spacecraft to determine which type of strike would cause the most damage, and relay the information to the next wave of attack planes.[1]

Unfortunately, the squadron was unprepared for the aliens' capabilities in which their weapons failed to penetrate the Destroyer and its attacker ships' deflector shields. This resulted in a one-sided dogfight that wiped out the Black Knights with Captain Steven Hiller being the sole survivor. Thereafter, the aliens traced the origins of the Black Knights to their base, El Toro, and destroyed it.
